An editing technique which I used throughout 'The Exchange' was the video transition 'cross dissolve'. This was to create a spooky transition between two shots, each shot containing a different actor, one of the two protagonists. I used cross dissolve between shots which weren't related to each other, so that the audience can draw conclusions. For example, at the beginning I used a cross dissolve between two shots of the protagonists walking in suspicious surroundings. From this, the audience can gather that they are ultimately going to cross paths at the end of the film.
Another technique I used the use of low lighting. As this film is a horror, the low lighting adds a eerie atmosphere. The video was filmed in daylight, and it is well known that high key lighting has connotations with a happier tone. I edited the footage in a way that brought down this lighting, to reinforce the theme of the video. I also included clips in black and white to add to this supernatural effect.
Finally, I cut certain shots so that a black flicker would flash on the screen. For example, at the end of the video when the pair do the exchange, I made the screen flicker black to mark this event. It further adds to the ghostly theme of the video, but also means that the viewer is engaged.
